After reading through I don't know how many threads, I've realized that a lot of the info doesn't apply to a prophecies only character

I bought this game a year ago and just never got around to playing it, but since I'm waiting on Warhammer to come out I figured this would give me something to do for 5 or 6 months.

I could use some info on what to do though. I figured I'd make a warrior since I've never played melee before but have wanted to for a while.

However, I don't really understand the whole attribute system. I guess I'll just figure it out as I go.

My main concern is the 2nd profession. Is there any second proff that would go well with that axe build? (He doesn't mention one in his post).

If not, anyone have any suggestions?

Attribute system is a bit confusing.

When you level up, you gain a set amount of attribute points that you can enter into your attributes. When these attributes are raised one level, then your skills will become more powerful. For instance, if you raise axe mastery up by one point, then your Executioner’s Strike would be stronger. Similarly, if you raised your sword mastery attribute up by one, your sword skill damage will increase. Since you are playing as a warrior, your weapon mastery attributes also increase your damage and critical chance.

The max level you can have for an attribute is 12. In order to raise it farther, you will need either runes, or a certain type of helm with the +attribute on it. It is in your great interest to have a maxed out weapon for damage. However, do not raise your weapon attribute over 14 because the small increase in damage is not worth the amount of health lost. If you are playing PvE though, health may not be as important in PvP since you’re probably not going to receive 600+ spikes.

EDIT:

As for the second profession problem, you are probably not going to fill half your bar with another profession's skills. The reason is because your low energy and energy regen can cause you a lot a trouble. A few good combinations, however, can include Rending Touch from the Dervish line as you usually don't have enchantments on. Natural healing is also a low costing heal. Rend Enchantments from the Necromancer line can be used as well for enchantment removal. Also from the necromancer line is Plague Touch, a helpful skill if you're under blind. From the elementalist you should definately try out Shock as it is a 2 second KD (3 with Stonefist), slight interrupter, a snare, and also a spell (you can use it even if you're blind). Paragon can be mixed in with its own adrenaline based skills. Ritualist have their splinter weapon which is great for PvE. W/Mo for hardres and farming.

Maybe you should try out PvP only first :P as it allows you to switch classes quickly, but also lets you see what builds are used and what builds are good.

Does this game have casual pvp? I've never been a big pve person (why I left WoW). I spent dozens of hours just playing BG's in WoW, but I don't really know the pvp system for GW.

Is there a PUG pvp system? Or is it just pointless because you'll get wrecked by PM groups?

The reason I ask is because from what I understand it won't take very long to get to 20...and well then I wouldn't mind just screwing around with some casual PvP...if that is possible. If not, then oh well whatever.

Random Arenas is basically a practice training ground for PvP as the teams are random so you get what youre given.

Well theres RA (Random Arenas), where you get matched up randomly with 3 other people. These matches tend to be decided by what professions you get and which team has the dumber people, so it's not the best way to get started. If you were going to be around for the long term, you could join a good guild and get them to teach you stuff, which will be a much better way to learn, but if you're just beginning finding a guild that will teach you every game mechanic from scratch will be hard. Just play PvE until you get a feel for things, then get a decent build and see how things turn out. Btw, theres alot of retards in RA, so don't take note of what they tell you.
